Opportunity Snapshot
IBM earns about half our revenue from services. IBM Global Business Services (GBS) invites you to expand your functional and technical skills by learning about our vast and diverse network of talented professionals, and considering how you could benefit from the comprehensive training and educational opportunities that are only available at a Fortune 100 company (we're actually ranked 15th). Armed with the resources that only a global leader can provide, you will take on challenging projects and deliver innovative solutions to leading commercial and public sector organizations in 17 industry verticals worldwide.
You will provide hands-on leadership to teams delivering business consulting, business process design, and systems integration projects, while managing client relationships. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have at least five years of experience managing large teams on FLC Siebel implementations. We're looking for professionals who understand the applications and content that comes from direct, hands-on experience in implementation work alongside of clients. Ideal candidates will have teamed with clients to lead and manage Siebel projects with not only a firm understanding of the Siebel solution but also excellent communication skills and the ability to act as a bridge between technical teams and business users. In addition, you'll need to be willing to travel. (Typically, our consultants are on-site with clients three to four days a week.)
Global reach. Thought leadership. Hard-hitting solutions. Our teams of consultants apply innovative thinking, practical tools, services, and high-powered technology to unearth business value, define a plan of action, and solve business issues. Our practice is thriving with a constant demand for Siebel consultants. New engagements are kicking off while existing clients are extending work with us.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
The ideal candidates will have come up through the ranks (coding, analysis, etc.) and will be willing to roll up their sleeves to achieve their goals. Individuals who have secured the trust of clients and demonstrated the ability to deliver results on or ahead of schedule will be successful here. In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
A bachelor's degree.
First-hand participation (contributing to project meetings, interacting directly with Project Managers, etc.) in Siebel implementations, ideally with a management consulting firm; we also will consider candidates working on internal projects as well as independent consultants.
The ability to translate technical concepts into functional language that is readily understood by business users.
Outstanding interpersonal skills, including a collaborative approach and the ability to influence and motivate others.
Prior experience with Siebel configuration and integration work; as a PM, you won't actually do it, but you'll need to know how it's done.
A demonstrated ability to leverage your analytical skills to solve problems creatively.
Preferred but not required:
A master's degree.
Experience interacting face-to-face with clients, such as leading workshops, managing client members, or gathering requirements.
At least five years experience in Siebel implementations.
At least five full lifecycle Siebel implementations.
At least three years experience in the management and successful delivery of all phases of at least two complex full lifecycle Siebel implementations.
Certification in Siebel (7 or greater).
Experience managing offshore teams.
This is a mobile position which can be based out of any city; we prefer that you are based in the East or Midwest, or are willing to relocate to one of these areas. As an IBM Oracle CRM consultant, you'll spend three to four days a week at the client site; you'll be home on weekends. Some of our consultants even take international projects and work abroad for a period of time.
What's in It for You
Professional development -- We invest heavily in our employees' development to maximize the success of our company, and the success of our people. As an IBM employee, you will have access to worldwide resources to help you define your career and achieve professional growth. Hands on, you will work with the latest releases of Siebel, as well as with other leading edge technologies.
Worldwide community -- Global innovation demands diverse employees and attractive work/life initiatives that sustain, and retain, them. It means getting work done in the best possible way, with a focus on business results, and not where and when people do their work. IBM gives you the power to tap into networking and community events that help you to develop your own career while also making contributions to wikis and other valuable resources that enable you to share and promote your knowledge with other colleagues and project teams.
Career flexibility -- IBM offers career path flexibility because we know your career path will be as individual as you are. You might choose to move vertically (this position is two or three steps away from Partner level in GBS), you might prefer to deepen your knowledge in your field of expertise or you might decide to make lateral moves to broaden your range of skills.
Stability and growth -- In addition to innovative business solutions, we take an innovative approach to growing the company. We've made significant inroads into emerging markets, and over the past five years we've invested some $24 billion in more than 70 acquisitions. In the second quarter of 2008 our revenues were up 13%.
Excellent compensation -- When it comes to having competitive compensation and benefits -- tangible and intangible -- IBM has long been a leader, and remains so today. In addition to competitive salary and incentive programs, we offer an outstanding benefits package that includes all you would expect -- from 21 paid days of vacation plus 12 paid holidays and a leading-edge 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase plan to some pleasant surprises such as $150 rebate just for working out, employee discounts on financial services, personal insurance, cars, vacations plus more.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
In a nutshell, you will assume ownership of the successful project delivery of Siebel technology and process engagements. You'll be heavily involved in business case development and performance measurement. This is a hands-on consulting delivery role, and not an account management or business development role, although you may be asked to help sell work as part of a pursuit team.
For the most part you'll focus on one project at a time, and projects will vary in size and scope. On a typical project you'll manage 10 to 15 professionals, but it may be as many as 30 to 40; a strategy project -- smaller in scope but nonetheless highly important -- may involve a team of 3. Most projects last from six to nine months, although setting up a roadmap may be a four to six week project, and major projects could last for years.
Keys to Success
To excel in this role you will have the have the technical and leadership skills, but you also will have the communication and interpersonal abilities not only to act as a translator between technical teams and business users, but also to demonstrate how our solutions will provide clients with uplift. If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
